Zed Scholar is the academic branch of Zed Books, an award-winning, critical, social science publisher founded in 1976.

Our scholarly output specialises in internationally-focused social science research and our scholarly books and digital collections are tailor made for the academic market.

Founded in 1976, our current catalogue is made up of almost 2,000 titles. We publish some of the world’s most well-respected international politics, development studies and area studies lists.

Unlike most other academic presses our output is focussed on both the Global North and South, as well as Western and Eastern hemispheres. This is because it is our mission to make both the academy and academic publishing more diverse and inclusive.

The Zed Scholar website includes zones especially designed for academics, publishing partners and librarians. Every book, series and digital collection featured on this site is part of our scholarly publishing program.
