Value of peer review

At Zed Books, we rely on an in depth, single-bind peer review process to ensure all of our publications are of the highest standard. But quality assurance is not the only function of peer review.

Peer review is the only widely accepted way to validate research, which makes it is a foundational part of academia and academic publishing — its value cannot be overestimated. This does not mean, however, that it is a perfect system. Over decades we have developed a sensitivity and understanding of the social and political implications of peer review in a broader context and aim to be completely transparent about our use of it, given that it is so central to our work as an academic press.
