Postcolonial Studies

Our entire academic publishing programme, across our 40 year history is based on the underlying principles and arguments for decolonisation and post-colonialism. The Zed Books Postcolonial Studies list spans international politics, society and culture. It provides a foundational understanding to global developments in the late twentieth century as well as contextualising current emerging markets and shifts in international power structures, from the grassroots to the global.

Currently a trend in social science publishing, decolonization is a highly relevant topic with students across the globe putting pressure on the education system to decolonise their curriculum and education. The need to decolonize the Western academy and it’s curriculum is not an issue that will go away any time soon, or quietly.

Zed Books has for decades provided a platform to marginalised and indigenous voices, offering a space for alternatives systems of knowledge production and learning. Major themes within our Postcolonial Studies list include gender and sexualities, education, occupied land, oppressed communities and individuals, the historical context of current movements, race politics, language, biodiversity and philosophy.
